Inspired by my grandparents’ early 1950s wedding cake, this sculptural reimagining recalls the celebration of Lenore and Irwin’s nuptials in New Haven and their honeymoon at the Nevele Hotel in Ellenville, NY. Removed from its original scale and function, the cake becomes an architectural form, layering memory, nostalgia, and cultural history.
Rooted in the Borscht Belt’s legacy of leisure and performance, the work reflects on how personal milestones are shaped by place, and how those places continue to hold meaning long after the moment has passed.
This work is part of the 2026 Borscht Belt Museum exhibit, Catskills Romance: Love and Desire in the Borscht Belt.
